Genesis 29

Good Morning “Willing to Wait on The Lord”.   Today we are in Genesis 29

Jacob finds his wife… the wife God intended?  Or was it?  After the scene in chapter 28 where God came to Jacob and told him He will always be with him - Jacob awakes from his sleep.  He’s got a new spring in His step according to the original wording, and continues on his journey.

He comes to a well, and sheep with their shepherds.   He learns they know his uncle Laban… in fact here comes his daughter!  Eureka!!! Jackpot!!! She’s beautiful, and she’s my uncles daughter.  Surely this is who I’m supposed to marry!  Likely something like this went through Jacob’s mind.  Notice what’s missing from Jacob’s reaction when he realizes - or believes he’s found her.  Compare his reaction to the Servants reaction in Chapter 24, when he found the bride he was seeking for Isaac.

In fact through the entirety of the story Jacob never asks, or praises the Lord or acknowledges His Grace and Blessing.  Jacob is making things happen his way… or at least he thinks.  He’s met match with his uncle Laban though.  The deceiver will become deceived.  Yet Gods Will still reigns and always will.  God continues here to use sinful man because… well… that’s all He has.  We’re all sinful.

Through the deception Jacob ends up consummating a marriage with the older daughter Leah - not the one he wanted but the one God chose.  Gods choice  is further evidenced by Gods continuing to build the nation of Israel through her.  Jacob, rather than realizing he never consulted God, repenting, and being content with Gods plan, takes Rachel as his wife also.  But not before another deal with Laban.  In this case, love IS blind.  Blind to what God is doing and Jacob, blinded to his flesh acting on wrong reasoning.  Jacob’s sin of deception is revisiting him.  Remember God must deal with sin, and here, despite God working His plan though it, He’s dealing with Jacob’s sin of deception with Isaac.

Where are we blinded to Gods plan - committed to working our own?  We all do it.  Seek Him always!  Stay plugged into His Word - it’s the best way to keep in step with The Spirit and dialed in with The Lord.

Love you all! Dig in!  Recognize Gods blessing and His plan!
