Good Morning “Made in His Image.” Today we are in Genesis chapter 2.
Yesterday we saw order of Gods Creation. Chief among Gods creation on day 6 was life, and chief among life was man.
“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it…”. Genesis 1:27-28 NIV
We are created in the image of God. This has HUGE implications when we begin talking about things like abortion. We were created specifically both male and female… with purpose, as you see. The first mandate was to multiply and fill the earth. The 2nd was to rule over it, subdue it - every living creature. The expectation is that we cultivate or bring the best out of everything He’s blessed us with. This is Gods design, Male and Female ruling over, taking care of, and responsibility for - all the rest. We are made in His image - animals are not. We are to be good stewards but we are not equal. His design is perfect - He does not make mistakes. We’ll see in ch 3 what a mess we make when we bring sin into the picture.
In Genesis 2 we get the breakdown of the creation of man and Gods order and design. It was not good for man to be alone so God created a helper suitable for him… woman. Her role is in no way inferior - just different. God Himself is our Helper, so be careful minimizing this term.
She was so amazing we get this declaration, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24
Again… this is Gods perfect order, His original design. A man will leave his father and mothers care, (cut the apron strings), and be united to his wife (marriage), then… the two become one flesh.
In a time when the lines are easily blurred… where do we go? Who do we ask? Who decides what’s right? Popular opinion? How about Hollywood? “…wide is the road that leads to destruction.” Matt 7:13
Perhaps we should consider the One to whom we ALL will someday bow before.
“It is written: “ ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’ ””l
Romans 14:11 NIV
It’s Gods design. The expectation is we live by it.
