2 John 1

Good Morning “Truth Walking Children.”  Today we take a look at the one chapter letter of 2 John.

Have you ever noticed how quickly a lie spreads?  The Truth although supremely powerful seems slower to move.  It’s weird.  Almost as if there were some driving force behind the lie or deception. Never forget the spiritual battle we wage daily.

John has recently received a visit from some of the members of another surrounding community of church’s. He’s told that they are remaining faithful in Jesus, but he fears the false teaching that he addressed in 1 John might spread to their church’s as well.  Lies tend to appeal to our flesh in some way so they spread faster.  False teaching about Jesus often elevates us and our power and diminishes His.  It often diminishes our need to humble our selves, repent and submit to Him - All things that are typically hard for us.  We like to be elevated!  So we easily accept anything to that end.  When lies and false teaching spread like wild fire - Satan profits.

Here John addresses the church as The Lady, and its people as children.  John warns that the deceivers are coming.  Reiterating the Great Commandments to Love God and Love others - John basically summarizes 1 John in this chapter.  We demonstrate our love by obedience.

“And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love. I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist.” 2 John‬ ‭1‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The deceivers will come and get us to look in the mirror.  We focus on ourselves and not God and others first.  Think of just the things we hear in our world and this passage seems almost prophetic.  Our add slogans, sayings and slang seem to confirm Johns fear.  “Have it your way.”  “My Truth.”  “You do you, I’ll do me.”  “I’m gonna get mine.”   “Self love, self care.” “Because you’re worth it.”  We MUST have a firm foundation built on The Word of God that we can see through the junk and discern what is Good!

Love you all!  Dig in!  Him first!  Then others!  Then you!  That’s His order.
