2 Peter 1

Good Morning “Prophecy Watchers.”  Today we dig into 2 Peter 1.

Peter is in Prison in Rome.  In anticipation of his execution, he decides to write a 2nd letter to the churches he had written to before.  You see he heard they were twisting off.  Jesus had not returned yet, so false teachers began teaching he wasn’t coming back.  With no impending judgement they were living immoral lives.

Have you seen the meme that says something like “If Paul was still alive we’d be getting a letter?”  It could read “ If Peter was still alive…”.   Even when death was at their door these men had concern for the church’s.

In our waiting have we lost our zeal?  Have we conformed to the pattern of this world, become weak?  Have we as The Church  given up on His return?  I hope not!

Among other things, Peter reminds them / us that Prophecy is reliable - It WILL happen!

“We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” 2 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭19‬-‭21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Prophecy came from God not man.  Prophecy is being fulfilled right before our eyes.  If you know Scripture you see it happening all around the world.  Why would He give us Prophecy?  Several clear reasons exist: Encouragement and Proof of the validity of Scripture are among them.  Additionally He gave us prophecy so that we might be ready when Jesus returns.  “When you see the clouds rolling in know it’s about to storm.”  That’s a paraphrase from Luke 12:54.

He inspired the writers so that we might know!  Dig in!  Know for yourself!  Love you all!
