Good Morning “Throne of Grace Approachers”. Today we dig into Hebrews 4.
The writer begins talking about resting - taking a Sabbath. What exactly is a Sabbath. We’ve heard Sunday is The Sabbath, but what’s that mean and what’s the purpose. Even God rested on the seventh day. We are to do likewise. I’m not sure the significance is that it be on Sunday, but that with the craziness of life we take a day to step back and spend time with Him. Press in, grow closer, reflect and study His Word! The writer makes it clear being in His Word should be a big part of our Sabbath, with his next movement:
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:9-12 NIV
The Word checks us up. Convicts us. It cuts through all the fake smiley face stuff and gets to the real. As we daily spin through our busy lives… are we living Biblically? Are we getting sucked into sin? Are we missing opportunities? All questions we should consider as we take time to be with Him. As His Spirit convicts our hearts, and we need to repent and ask forgiveness - we are reminded He’s there for us!
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Hebrews 4:15-16 NIV
He became flesh in Jesus and lived among us! He gets it! Don’t hesitate to lay it all before Him. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 NIV
Love you all! Dig in!
