Good Morning “Sifted Wheat.” Today we are in Amos 9.
The last chapter in Amos also contains the last of the 5 visions God gave Israel through Amos. A terrible time is coming in which God will destroy all of those that continue to deny and / reject Him and His Word. Despite His many warnings their hearts are hard, and they continue in their own way.
Throughout Israel there is a longstanding belief that simply because they are “Gods Chosen” they are saved (vs 10). The fact is among the “chosen” there are many that reject God. Only a “remnant” of Jacob (Israel) will be saved (vs 8; Romans 9:6). The faithful will be separated from the unfaithful.
As one sifts wheat to remove the chaff, the impurities and even and rocks that might be in it - God will sift Israel - “among the nations” (vs 9). Did you catch that… the sifting is not only for the Jew. God WILL restore Israel, using the remnant. In this way, though not every individual will be saved - Israel will be saved as God promised (Romans 11:25-27).
So sifting is not just for the Jew. Neither is it just an Old Testament concept (Luke 22:31-32; Romans 11:17-24).
Bottom line… there will come a time, as we often mention, when the True Believers will be separated from those who simply go through the motions (Matthew 7:23).
