Mark 9

Good Morning “No Doubt Followers.”  Today we are in Mark 9.

Jesus continued to show His followers who He truly is.  In Mark 8 we learned that although they “saw” Him, they did not “see” Him clearly.  They believed He was the Messiah and knew what that meant but were still confused about the cross.  They had been given the power to cast our demons but at times doubted and failed.  They “understood” dying to themselves but wondered who was going to be the greatest in Heaven.  They got it, but didn’t really get it!

Some things never change.  He is big, so big that completely wrapping our mind around Him and the miracle of the cross is an impossible endeavor.  That simply means we must apply what we learn as we learn and go.  It’s a process.  A process He takes us through by the power of The Holy Spirit as we digest His Word (Philippians 1:6).

A couple clear takeaways for us from this chapter:

- The expectation is total faith and reliance on Jesus.  Take a look at how He responds when the disciples fail for lack of faith (vs 19)!  He has big expectations for His followers and isn’t as gentle with us we make Him out to be - when we fall short.

- If you want to be first in the kingdom, you must be last!  Few are willing to be that (vs 35).

- We are accountable for things we do that may cause others to stumble (vs 42-).  Someone is always watching.  We all are an example to someone, the question is what kind?  He’s given us His Word and told us simply - live by It (Matthew 4:4; Psalm 119:9-11, 105)!  Therefore, we must KNOW what it says!

The expectation is we reflect Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:11-21).  Unfortunately some will form their opinion of Jesus based on our model.  So… what kind of Jesus do they see when they look at us?

Love you all!  Dig in and live it out!
