Ezekiel 36

Good Morning “Little Chicks”.  Today we are in Ezekiel 36.

We’ve all witnessed that disobedient, bratty little child. I may have been that kid.  At times I know I was close.  Back in our day (man I’m sounding old) when we were being knuckleheads and pushed moms’ patience beyond its limit - she would tell us to go play in the street.  It’s not quite like it sounds.  The streets of Eaton were less busy than they are now, so playing in the street, riding our bikes, tossing the ball around, using the cup-de-sac as a baseball diamond was pretty typical.

Her point was, get away from me, “before I wring your neck” (Those were her words)… not the get away from me but the, “I’m gonna wring your neck.”  Israel had pushed God to the point that He was ready to “wring their neck”.  His justice required He deal with their sin.  They wouldn’t listen to His Word.  God calls them stiff neckedj (Exodus 32:9, Acts 7:51).  So He sent them to the street… Exile in Babylon.

Sometimes we got loud, so carried away out in front of our house, that mom would then open door and yell… “What are you guys doing… I can hear you all the way inside!  GET BACK IN HERE!”  We had crossed over from frustrating mom to dishonoring her / the family.

That’s what came to mind as I read today’s chapter - specifically vs 22-23.
“Therefore say to the Israelites, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: It is not for your sake, people of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone. I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Sovereign Lord, when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.” Ezekiel‬ ‭36‬:‭22‬-‭23‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When Gods people act like lost people, worldly people, it’s a problem.  We are Christians, called by His name, members of the family of God (John 1:12-13), we ought act like it!  Even Jesus said He wanted to gather Israel unto Himself like a hen gathers her chicks but she was not willing (Luke 13:34).  Are we?  Do we listen to The Word as He reveals it to us?  Are we even in it?  Do our actions honor the family?  (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Love you all!  Dig in!
