Good Morning “Team Choosers”. Today we are in Obadiah.
Edom was a descendent of Esau. She was one of Judahs neighboring cities. Despite their relational ties, when Babylon conquered Judah, Edom joined in looting the city. Furthermore they intercepted fleeing Judean’s and turned them over to the Babylonian army to be executed or enslaved. They showed NO compassion or mercy for their brothers and sisters.
God through Obadiah has a message for Edom - really for all nations. “The day of the Lord is near for all nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; your deeds will return upon your own head.” Obadiah 1:15 NIV
Indeed God is about to unleash His wrath on Edom. Her allies will turn on her. Her friends will deceive her, even those close to Edom, “those who eat her bread” will set traps for her (vs7).
Although Israel and Judah have both lost their way, and God is judging accordingly - we dare not jump on the pile. God will deal with those who do, and one day restore Judah (vs 17).
The Lord will in fact give even the mountains of Edom to His people .
May Obadiah serve as yet another reminder for us. God will deal with those who oppose and persecute His people - those who “join in”. We must be careful who we oppose and who we stand with. Even in His judgment on His people we see His Grace. Remember His goal is restoration - no matter how far they’ve fallen. He proved His intentions by giving us Jesus (John 3:16). Who do you stand with? There’s only 2 teams. Which one do you choose?
Love you all! Dig in and live it out!
