Matthew 1

Good Morning “Digging In”
Today we are in Matthew 1.

“The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Matthew is said to be the “Recorder” among the Disciples.  He was a tax collector and thus would have been inclined to catch the details and even record them.  Some have said Matthew left everything behind to follow Jesus… everything but his pen and paper.

“The first two words of Matthew, biblos genseos, may be translated ‘record of the genealogy,’ ‘record of the origins,’ or ‘record of the history’ There is a sense in which each meaning is valid.

Matthew 1-17 gives us the “record of the genealogy”.

Matthew 18-23 gives us the “record of the origins.”

Within the book of Matthew we have the record of history.

Matthew begins by establishing Jesus right to the eternal throne as prophesied.  He states it from the beginning “Jesus Christ The Son of David (2 Samuel 7:12-16; Psalm 132:11; Isaiah 11:1; Jeremiah 23:5), The Son of Abraham (Genesis 22:18; Galatians 3:16).

Joseph receives a visit from an angel who defends Mary’s honor, and helps him understand the miracle that would take place.   In turn he does not divorce Mary but keeps and marries her!  Jesus, The Savior of the world - born of a virgin!  Here we go, buckle your seat belts!

Love you all!  Dig and live it out!
