Good Morning “Dealt With”. Today we are in Ezekiel 35.
In today’s chapter we continue to move from the chapters of judgment in Ezekiel on to the chapters of restoration prophecy. This chapter may not seem much like restoration, but walk with me here…
During the 1000 year Millennial Kingdom Israel will be restored to the land God promised - in keeping with His covenant to Abraham (Genesis 12:1-3).
That land has always been fought over. If Israel is to be restored God must end all claims to that land. That’s why despite the fact that we already read of Edoms judgment in chapter 25 - Edom’s judgment resurfaces in this chapter. But wait… who is Edom anyway, and why would they think they have claim to the land?
All of Israel descended from Abraham - that was the promise remember? But also remember Abraham’s children, the first decedents (so to speak)? Abraham first bore Ishmael after he and his wife took matters into their own hands (Genesis 16). He became the father of Islam, (Muslims)… to this day they believe they have claim to the land. The promised one of God came later - Isaac (Genesis 21). Isaacs’ sons were Esau and Jacob. Esau was born first, so he would rightfully receive the "birthright". Jacob received the blessing (Genesis 25 tells the story). He was always Gods choice (Romans 9:13). Ok… so…
Esau’s descendants became Edom - get it? Esau (Edom) believes the “Promised Land” is his / theirs despite Gods choice. Edom had to be judged because of their sin, but decimated for the “remnant” of Israel to inherit the land.
In this chapter the Lord is denying any competing claims to the land of Israel in the days of the Kingdom, and setting His people up to receive the land.
Crazy right? Some things to be reminded of from this chapter:
- God always keeps His Covenants and Promises.
- His Covenant with Israel demanded He deal with their sin, but also promised restoration when there was true repentance.
- Gods the same today - His character demands that He will always deal with sin. The purpose is always restoration (Hebrews 12:4-13).
Love you all! Dig in!
