Amos 8

Good Morning “Those Who Thirst.”  Today we are in Amos 8.

Let’s play the deserted island game.  You’re somehow left alone on a deserted island.  Beforehand, you’re given a choice… you can either have all of your media, or your Bible.  The rest of your life with no media, or the rest of your life without The Word of God.  Which would you choose… honestly?

In today’s chapter, God through Amos, paints a picture of a time without Gods Word.  We know of such a time.  Around 400 BC, after the prophetic Words of Malachi - God is silent.  No more revelation - literally until John The Baptist comes on the scene heralding Jesus.

God reached and reached and reached for Israel.  In His Grace He cared for and provided for Israel.  In His Grace He warned and warned them when they rejected Him.  In His Grace He disciplined that they might repent and turn back.  Now in His Grace He will be silent.  Will they miss Him?

“The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land— not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it. Amos‬ ‭8‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What if we experienced a day in which The Word of The Lord was no longer found.  No longer available.  In our desperation, we long for encouragement from it, we long for direction through it, we long for the peace it provides but It’s gone.  Would we miss it?  Would we thirst for it, do we NEED it like we need air and water?

I began with a question today.  The Word or Media.  “Good” Christians are quick to answer… The Word of course!  Truly?  Compare the value we put on each today, the time we spend with each.  Perhaps… therein lies the answer of our heart (Matthew 4:4).

Love you all!  Dig in and live it out!
