Good Morning “Work in Process”. Today we are in Jonah 4.
Gods not done with Jonah yet. Oh, he went to Nineveh alright. And he did what God told him to do. They repented, and God relented. In Jonah’s eyes THAT was the problem! They deserved destruction!
Jonah is so angry over Gods mercy on Nineveh that he would rather die (Jonah 4:3)
God demonstrates both the value He places on each person created in His image, and His absolute authority to restore and preserve life when He chooses - through a little plant. Through his time of sulking, Jonah nearly loses it over Gods destruction of his little shade plant.
This is a tough one for us all! It’s easy to look at the absolute wicked of the world want them destroyed. God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. He desires that all would repent and gives chance after chance to that end (Ezekiel 33:11). God gives Jonah a glimpse of His own heart through this object lesson.
Perhaps it does the same for us? May we never forget, we were once all lost as well (Ephesians 2:1-5).
