Good Morning “Demon Slayers”. Today we are in Mark 5.
Satan has been wreaking havoc throughout the earth (Job 1:7). But, now, Jesus is on the scene and making His power apparent! Jesus’ teaching, ministry, and miracles served to do more than just love and teach the Disciples and other followers. He was putting Satan on notice.
He was making a definitive BOLD statement! If we look back a bit to Mark 4:35, we see His ability to control the weather. It was widely thought at that time that Satan brought the bad storms. (Some still believe that today). But God brings the wind out of the storehouses, the rain on the just and I just and sits over the storm (Psalm 135:6-7, Jeremiah 10:13, Matthew 5:45, Psalm 29:10). As we get into Mark 5 He demonstrates His control over evil. But not just 1 demon - a legion. A Roman legion was typically 3000-6000. Furthermore He continues to show His power over sickness without even a touch. Satan no doubt took joy in seeing sickness and death enter the world! But, even death is no match for Jesus! Good and evil may be opposite but they are in no way equal! Let me repeat that… GOOD and EVIL are in NO WAY EQUAL! Make sure that sinks in… our world teaches something entirely different.
Here’s the even crazier part… If you truly believe and know Jesus, His Spirit and power is in you! (Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:20) Hence we need not fear the “evil one” or the “havoc” he raises (1 John 4:4, Matthew 10:28).
