Good Morning “Armor of God Wearers”. Today we are in Ephesians 6.
Paul starts out with some talk about the family-
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:1-4 NIV
Let’s be reminded, “Honor your father and mother” comes before “Do not murder,” as the 10 commandments are ordered. It’s big. Parents are an extension of Gods hand. Children are blessings to steward. As such he takes disobedience to parents seriously - way seriously! Honor isn’t an option.
Dads, Oxford defines “exasperation” accordingly: a feeling of intense irritation or annoyance “she rolled her eyes in exasperation". We’re not supposed to cause this… but instead encourage and instruct in the Lord. Verse 4 above speaks to nourishing them (Literally Feed them out of . . . ) in the child-training (same word as used in II Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 12:5, 7-8, 11) and Instruction in the LORD (I Corinthians 10:11).”
It’s interesting after Paul talks about these subjects he comes with instruction regarding the spiritual battle we are in. Throughout Ephesians Paul has referred to Satans schemes and influence in our lives. Who do you think gets “in there” and tempts us to disobey or dishonor mom and dad? He also tempts Fathers to punish rather than nourish in the discipline & teaching of the LORD (Hebrews 12:3-11.) Who do you think whispers temptations that incite us to live contrary to Gods Word in any way?
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
Ephesians 6:10-12 NIV
Make no mistake Satan isn’t napping while we’re purposing to live obedient to The Word of God and be used by Him for His purposes. Satan prowls around like a roaring lion looking for who he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). Lions go after the straggler, the one at the back of the pack, the weak. Don’t be weak! Be prepared!
Check out this chapter, and make sure you got all your Armor. A warrior does not go into battle without battle tools! We are in a battle - whether we acknowledge it or not.
