Good Morning “Objects of Jesus’ Prayer”. Today we are in John 17
Let’s imagine your life is about to come to a close. You know it. You’ve been told. You are about to be arrested, beaten beyond recognition, then hung on a cross. What do you do? Pray… sure, but for what? Quick death? Strength to withstand all the pain? Maybe.
We don’t know everything Jesus prayed for sure - only what’s recorded. Luke records that Jesus prayed ““Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” Then , “An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” Luke 22:42-44
We’ve talked about this… The original Greek language used in this passage speaks to “as it was” rather than “like”. We know it’s actually possible for someone to sweat blood. Medical journals actually site Jesus experience as one of those cases. HEMATOHIDROSIS is a rare clinical phenomenon in which the capillaries burst due high stress and increased blood pressure.
So what else does Jesus pray for while He’s in so much anguish that He’s sweating blood?
He prays for the Disciples, and He prays for the Believer’s, and those that will Believe as a result of their message. He was praying for you!
As He sweat drops of blood praying for you… aren’t you curious what prayed for? I won’t spoil it. Dig into John 17.
Love you all! Dig in and live it out!
