Good Morning “Meat Eaters”. Today we are in Ezekiel 30.
These last few chapters of Ezekiel have historically become fuel for some of the greatest interpretation divisions between scholars. Like He did through Isaiah and Jeremiah, God through Ezekiel gives us both near term and future “end times” prophecy. The two are sometimes woven together making it a challenge, at times, to understand which prophecies deal with which time period.
Clues can be easily found in specific phrases used to define particular periods. For instance, in this chapter we see the first use by Ezekiel of the phrase “The Day of The Lord” (vs 3) signaling this at least part, is an end times prophecy. Other books point to the same events even using similar descriptions - thus providing clarity. For instance, let’s remember Daniel is living at the same time as Ezekiel, in Babylon under Nebuchadnezzar. That’s right, the stories we’ve heard about Daniel, and even the Hebrew Children… this is the time period.
This chapter speaks of Nebuchadnezzar’s unmatched world power. In the visions Daniel receives in his book he tells of a long period of history that begins with Nebuchadnezzar and ends with Christ’s return. At the beginning of that period, Daniel says Nebuchadnezzar is given complete rule of the world (Daniel 2:37-38). Jeremiah, another contemporary of Ezekiel and Daniel - says the same thing (Jeremiah 27:5-7).
Daniel later describes this future world leader that will match or perhaps eclipse Nebuchadnezzar’s power (Daniel 7:23-25).
Further complicating things is the fact that often short term prophecies regarding historical events we have already seen happen, also serve as metaphors for future end time events.
The near term judgments against Egypt are carried out by God through the agency of an all-powerful world leader, Nebuchadnezzar. The longterm prophecies of judgment are carried out by God through the agency of the Antichrist, an all-powerful world leader. Ultimately the VICTORY will come through Christ, THE all-all-powerful, unmatched world leader.
So, my commitment to you all was an application from each chapter of Scripture. What do we take from this?
First and foremost regarding the understanding piece… we must first have a real relationship with Jesus (John 3:16, Romans 10:9) and thus the Holy Spirit in us, illuminating The Word of God for us - or our study efforts are futile (Romans 8:9, John 14:26, Luke 8:12, Matthew 13:19).
The Spirit does the teaching, but we must intentionally dive in and be students of The Word or NONE of it mesh’s together for us (Joshua 1:8, Romans 12:2). We remain infants… drinking milk (1 Corinthians 3:1-2).
A simple, in your face application from this chapter is - terror and judgment is coming for anyone not on Team Jesus. Rejecting God and His Word is a death sentence. Those who align themselves with the world and separate themselves from God have a horrific future in store.
Love you all! Dig in!
