Good Morning “Know IT Alls”. Today we are in Ezekiel 13.
News is big business - anything for ratings these days! Truth doesn’t seem to matter.
You want the good news or the bad news? Although news that divides, news that stirs passion - gets clicks, we all love to hear good news. Especially when it has to do with us personally.
As long as time has existed man has realized that giving people good news - nets a favorable response. When the people are chasing their flesh and rebuked… it’s usually met with defensiveness. But, when they are told to be who they want to be, that there is no punishment or rebuke coming, that God or “the universe” will bless regardless… well, that’s more favorable isn’t it? I know, let’s add a little God wants you wealthy and successful… now that’s a message worth paying for. That’s where we find Israel in this chapter. That kind of false teaching continues all through Scripture - and even today.
Many claim to be an experts on the Bible and speak on the authority of God, yet put forth (as truth) things the Bible clearly opposes. That is what the Bible calls a “false prophet.”
Before The Bible, God delivered His Word to the people- through The Prophet’s. But now we have His complete revealed Word. Paul said we should desire prophecy above all spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 14:1). So, what is this prophecy Paul is saying we should pursue? What constitutes Biblical prophecy in our generation.
First, it does not predict new future Biblical events. It is also is not the process of writing new books of the Bible. Modern-day prophecy for believers is simply the Spirit-enabled ability to read, understand God’s Word and share it with application.
Upon salvation, every new follower of Jesus is given the gift of the Holy Spirit. Part of the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to reveal the Truth of God’s Word. Paul challenged the church in Corinth to seek God’s revelation through His Word. This is precisely what Spirit-filled believers do when they read God’s Word, and He allows them to understand it, contextualize it within the times in which we live, apply it to our lives. Then, share that revelation with others.
So, what is a false prophet? A false prophet is anyone who, apart from the Spirit’s revelation of God’s perfect Word, claims to speak on behalf of God. What is so dangerous about that? It gets well-meaning Believers to hope in things God never promised (Proverbs 13:12)!
The danger of this false hope is that we genuinely believe the Lord has spoken through the (unbeknownst to us) false prophet. When the prophecy is not fulfilled, we blame God! Our trust in Him is strained. It can also create a false sense of security, even eternal security. Repentance is demonstration of TRUE belief. If repentance isn’t encouraged, or prompted, the “idea of salvation is never really fleshed out. Salvation isn’t real apart from repentant action and obedience (John 14:15-17, Matthew 7:21-23).
That is why WE must read and know the Word for ourselves, asking the Holy Spirit, to reveal its Truth and then live according to its revelation.
We have a world full of Biblical “Know it Alls”… that really don’t know IT - at all. Gods expectation and my challenge to you is to Know IT. ALL of it.
Love you all! Dig in!
