Good Morning “Church”.
Today we are in Ezekiel 10.
We likely find it challenging to completely wrap our minds around today’s passage. Once again we see the incredible description of The Cherubim which by themselves are tough for us to fathom. Now try to imagine the rest of the scene as the Glory of God departs from the Temple.
In the face of all of the incredible judgment and its associated suffering - today’s chapter may not seem like a big deal. Despite years of warnings, Gods people continued in their sin and idol worship… now Gods Glory departs. Ok… so, why is that a big deal?
Remember before Messiah came in The Flesh - Jesus, The Holy Spirit did NOT dwell in His people. So… when they wanted to meet with God, be comforted by God - they went to the Temple for that is where His Glory dwelled (2 Chronicles 5:14, 2 Chronicles 7:1-3). We simply resist the devil and he flees, we draw near to God and He draws near to us (James 4:7-8). His comfort is LITERALLY just a turn away - a turning to Him that is.
Imagine the only real source of comfort, peace, and REAL Love - Gone! This was BIG! Bigger than any physical suffering or even death! Some will ask, if God is “Omnipresent”, (everywhere present) how can He “depart” anywhere? Truly He CANNOT, but He can remove His Glory, the manifestation of His presence. He can remove the access His people once enjoyed.
That thought is horrifying! For True Followers of Jesus He promises He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). It’s passages like today’s passage that give such weight to such promises. However what of those who aren’t “True Followers”? Well “Away from me for I never knew you” Matthew 7:23. Consider Gods letters to the church’s in Revelation 3. God is not fooled. He is able to distinguish between His true Church and the “synagogues of Satan” (Revelation 2:9, 3:9).
Love you all! Dig in!
