Good Morning “Sin Grievers.” Today we are in Lamentations 1.
“…The Lord has brought her grief because of her many sins. Her children have gone into exile, captive before the foe.”
Lamentations 1:5 NIV
Well it happened just as God warned it would. Jerusalem is devastated, crushed, most of Judah taken into 70 years of Babylonian captivity. Those left behind to live in the horrible conditions of their ransacked city have a daily reminder of the destruction caused by their sin. Their grief would be indescribable, yet they sing songs, “Lamentations” - that give us some idea of its depth.
Although the writer of these Lamentations is never directly named herein, their tone, and style tell us it’s Jeremiah. Furthermore The Septuagint, the original Greek Old Testament names Jeremiah as the pen - who wrote down The Words of God .
It all stands to reason. Jeremiah spent nearly 40 years of his life to this point - warning Judah that this would happen. Now it has. He is broken in destructions wake! Why didn’t they listen? Good question.
As sad as it is make sure you read it through, let it marinate within. There is much for us to learn here.
