Deuteronomy 18

Good Morning “Testers of Everything You Hear”.  Today we are in Deuteronomy 18.

After God though Moses reminds the Israel to be obedient take care of the Levites who serve them; He reminds them once again not to conform.  ”When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there.“ Deuteronomy‬ ‭18‬:‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Man this passage echoes Romans 12:2 for me!  “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”  The only thing that can renew our mind is the Word of God taught by The Spirit of God.

He moves from don’t conform to their ways to…listen to The Prophet God will raise up for you.  There will also be false prophets, who must be put to death.  WOW… but how do we determine if they are really a false prophet.  Here God provides a very simple way… if what they say God said was gonna happen, doesn’t… well then obviously they didn’t get that information from God.  We’ve seen news stories of cult leaders, like David Koresh whose followers went to their grave in anticipation of prophecy which never came true.

There is something else that should have triggered concern for his followers.  The Word of God!  If a teacher comes, teaching or prophesying things which DO NOT mesh with Scripture, guess what?  Run fast!  They seem dialed, but ARE NOT speaking on Gods behalf, or teaching Biblical Truth, if what they are teaching contradicts Scripture.

”Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭15‬ NIV

But Pastor Jason, what if I don’t know Scripture well enough to identify a false teacher or false prophet?  There in lies the problem.

Love you all!  Dig in!
