Leviticus 8

Good Morning “Holy Priesthood”. Today we are in Leviticus 8.

Here we read about all of the specific instructions and offerings associated with the Ordination of Aaron and his sons as Priests to serve in the Tabernacle.  We continue to remember that all Scripture is God breathed and useful to grow us up.  And, that all of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation is one story - the story of Jesus and the redemption offered through His blood.  With that in mind I’m constantly purposed to draw application from these passages for us.

Of this chapter, the verse that sticks out to me the most is this one “You must stay at the entrance to the tent of meeting day and night for seven days and do what the Lord requires, so you will not die; for that is what I have been commanded.” Leviticus‬ ‭8‬:‭35‬ ‭NIV‬‬. What were they supposed to wait for?  At this point they don’t know.  We have the luxury of reading on and if we do we see that God was about to fill the Tabernacle. Lev 9:4

Fast forward to Jesus.  After Jesus Resurrection and before His Ascension into Heaven we read this  “…Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Acts‬ ‭1‬:‭4‬-‭5‬

What’s interesting is if you do the math, using the Jewish calendar and the surrounding events to Pentecost, guess how long they were waiting?  Hint… Seven days.

On the eighth day God filled the Tabernacle (Temple) in Leviticus 9.  On the eighth day God, in the form of the Holy Spirit filled the believers (The Temple of God) at Pentecost - Acts 2:1-4.  Is Scripture cool or what?

The Priests (Aaron and his sons) were ordained as priests and foreshadows Jesus ordaining the Apostles as priests to the nations.  Furthermore Jesus has ordained all believers as priests to carry his Gospel the world.  Check out 1 Peter 4:2-9, Rev. 1:4-6, 5:6-10.

Love you all!  Go, be an Ambassador for Christ!  Dig in.
