Capital Punishment is a controversial issue in our society today. Among other reminders, here God is reminding the Nation of Israel that life is required for the taking of life. Capital Punishment was never our idea. In fact our nation was founded on Christian values, by largely Christian men. Dare I say that The Constitution of the United States, The Bill of Rights and our original governing laws, were drafted using The Bible as the blueprint.
The argument that our nation was founded by Pagans has gained traction from time to time, but anyone who has actually done the research will discover the opposite. In this chapter we also pick up on the obvious connection between man and the earth he was created from. Perhaps it goes all the way back to Garden and Adam’s creation from the dust. I don’t want to make more of this than it is, but evident from Scripture is our command to subdue, and cultivate the earth. Man is to protect and be a good steward of all that God has blessed us with (Genesis 1-2).
What does that mean? I’ll tell you what it doesn’t mean. It doesn’t mean we jump on the latest “pat ourselves on the back” propaganda train aimed at creating the latest multi billion dollar a year industry. A wise man once said “Create an industry that gives the American people something that makes them feel good about themselves and you’ll be rich!” Follow the money.
Not everything that sounds good is! Remember the evil one masquerade’s as an angel of light. It is incumbent upon us; expected, that we will be Bareans in these areas as well. As Christian’s charged with protecting Gods creation, we should be the most informed person in the room. If we’re going to get behind it, the expectation is that we know it’s really good! Wind Energy, Recycling, Electric Vehicles… We must do our research! In this day and age it’s easy to find. No excuses for being uniformed. I’ll leave it at that.
