Deuteronomy 8

Good Morning “Receivers of EVERYTHING.”  Today we are in Deuteronomy 8.

We live in a country where if you work hard enough you can provide for yourself… right?  Truly working hard honors God, and blessing often accompanies obedience, however; make no mistake it is God who provides.  Scripture reminds us He gives us every breath we take.  Our talents and gifts come from Him.

Here Moses reminds Israel that it was God who provided ALL they needed in the desert as they wandered.  He protected them and disciplined them.  He kept their clothes from wearing out, brought water from rock, even made them hungry then brought manna from the heavens - all so they would learn to trust Him always.  He reminds them that it is God who gives them the ability to work hard and earn money.  ”But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth…”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭8‬:‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This reminder comes with a warning, don’t forget where the blessing came from when you’re fat and happy - your destruction will surely follow.

Paul echos many of these same words to the church in Corinth who had also begun to feel pretty good about themselves.  ”For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?“
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When we seek Him and His righteousness first, we’re told He will provide for our needs. (Matt 6:33). When we don’t rely on our own understanding but trust Him always, acknowledging Him in everything - He’ll make our path straight.  (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Surely when we begin to believe we’ve somehow done it on our own.  We got this life nailed!  I’m really something!  God will remind us it’s really all Him!

Love you all!  Dig in!
