Proverbs 26

Good Morning “Leary of Stray Dogs.”  Today we are in Proverbs 26.

We just returned from Costa Rica.  There are alot of stray dogs there.  Belize, Mexico - they aren’t much different except the dogs look even worse.  We don’t touch… typically.  They usually have flees… and who knows what else.  Many don’t look healthy, they’re a little more wild than we are used to.  You definitely don’t grab its ears in an attempt to hold on to it.  What an analogy from Solomon here.

“Like one who grabs a stray dog by the ears is someone who rushes into a quarrel not their own.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭26‬:‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What’s his point?  Rush into a quarrel you are not a part of and… you’re liable to get bit!  I believe the key here is rush.  When Jesus says “Blessed are the peacemakers” in Matthew 5:9, understand He is primarily taking about the “ministry of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:11-21).  Helping others to see the need to make peace with their Creator God through Jesus.  Yes helping others in their relational disputes is a worthy pursuit, but enter with caution…

Heed the following Proverbs as well.  No need to keep the fire burning, or the pot stirring.

“Without wood a fire goes out; without a gossip a quarrel dies down. As charcoal to embers and as wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome person for kindling strife. The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭26‬:‭20‬-‭22‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Be part of the solution not the problem.

Love you all.  Dig in!
