Good Morning “Weight Tossers”. Today we are in Psalm 38.
David pleads with The Lord for relief. Relief from the physical, emotional and spiritual consequences of sin. Sin is a liar that presents as immediate, free pleasure, but ALWAYS comes at a cost. “Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; there is no soundness in my bones because of my sin. My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.” Psalms 38:3-4 NIV
Sometimes that weight is more than we can bear. Apart from the Grace of God through Jesus’ payment on the cross, sin results in death in the form of eternal separation from God.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23 NIV
Receiving, Jesus’ payment on The Cross seals The Believer for eternity, but the temporal weight and consequences of sin remain.
“Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father?”
Hebrews 12:7 NIV
The weight of sin is heavy, debilitating even… there’s a better way. Toss it off…
“…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,” Hebrews 12:1 NIV
How do we do that? Turn back Jesus, ask forgiveness, repent and turn away from your sin. (1 John 1:9, Acts 3:19).
Conviction that comes from The Holy Spirit doesn’t feel good - But we ought to be thankful for it. The real danger comes when we embrace our sin to the point that God turns us over to it. (Romans 1:24,26,28)
Love you all! Dig in!
