Isaiah 62

Good Morning “Named by God”.  Today we are in Isaiah 62.

God will not rest until what He has promised is fulfilled. Having spoken it God will bring it to pass.  He promised Salvation for Israel. He is Faithful, and will remind the world of such once again.

The righteousness of Zion alluded to in the last verse of chapter 61, will shine out like the dawn. Similarly think of the imagery we have become familiar with.  Moses glowed as a result of spending time on the mountain with God (Exodus 34:29-35).  From the NT we know Jesus is the light - the light that shines through ALL true believers. (2 Corinthians 3:7-9, John 1:9, Ephesians 5:8, Matthew 5:14-16).

Israel is the bride of Jehovah. The wedding gown and jewels mentioned in Isaiah 61:10 adorn her.  When the bride marries,  she typically gets a new name.  Isaiah prophesies the same for Israel here.  She will be called “Hephzibah”. (My delight is in her), as opposed to “Deserted,” and the land in which she lived will be called “Beulah” (married) as opposed to “Desolate.”

Before you know it we’ll be reading through the book of Hosea - where we find the same “name change” principle.

“When the Lord began to speak through Hosea, the Lord said to him, “Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the Lord.” Hosea‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Two of Hosea’s children’s names were: “No Compassion” and “Not My People.” Maybe you already are aware but, Hosea’s God-commanded adulterous marriage (and its subsequent offspring) was a greater metaphor for Israel’s spiritual adultery.

When we repent of our sin and turn to God, we are no longer the same (John 1:12 -13, 2 Corinthians 5:17).  We become a child of the living God! So… whether from Hosea, Isaiah, or Jesus through John… we see, we get a new name (Revelation 2:17).  Super cool - right!!!

Love you all! Dig in! In
