Jeremiah 43

Good Morning “Logical”.  Today we are in Jeremiah 43.

For a moment, let’s think logically.  God is All Powerful, Sovereign over all things. He created all things (Colossians 1:16) and sustains all things.  He brings the wind, the rain and the disaster (Psalm 135:7, Amos 3:6).  He gives us everything even breath (Acts 17:25).  He has the power to bless or to curse.  His purpose will prevail (Proverbs 19:21).  Many are a man’s plans but He orders his steps (Proverbs 16:9).    He has a standard and an expectation for His people, it’s really simple OBEY (Deuteronomy 28:1-2, James 1:22).  Be Holy even as Jesus is Holy (1 Peter 1:16).  Even as it relates to today’s passage He promises blessing if they do… judgment if they don’t.

The same expectation applies to us.
So… they / we can’t beat Him.  We can’t shrug and do it our way and win!  He’s TOO powerful.  Judah knew this.  They had a wealth of experience both doing it right and getting it wrong… so do we.

So logically when God clearly says to them “If you stay in this land, I will build you up and not tear you down; I will plant you and not uproot you, for I have relented concerning the disaster I have inflicted on you.” Jeremiah‬ ‭42‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬  If you flee to Egypt I’ll crush you (paraphrase).

OF COURSE they obey and stayed right?

WRONG.

“So Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers and all the people disobeyed the Lord’s command to stay in the land of Judah.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭43‬:‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What’s wrong with us?  Deception, our depravity, our rebellious heart runs deep.

“Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭13‬-‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Love you all!  Dig in!
