Good Morning “Nobody’s”. Today we are in Proverbs 30.
“The sayings of Agur son of Jakeh—an inspired utterance. This man’s utterance to Ithiel: “I am weary, God, but I can prevail.”
Proverbs 30:1 NIV
Yes! Agur gets it! Read on if you haven’t already and you will see just how much he gets it! He understands Gods Power, His Flawless Word, and that we dare not attempt to add to it! IT is ALL SUFFICIENT. He somehow even grasps the concept of Gods Son… centuries before Jesus was born (vs 4). How? And who is Agur anyway? For that matter who is Jakeh, or Ithiel? Go ahead, search your Bible. I’ll wait.
Truth is, they’re not mentioned. In Nehemiah 11:7 there is an “Ithiel” mentioned as a descendent from the tribe of Benjamin, but THAT’S it! We aren’t even sure if it’s the same Ithiel. Maybe. There are a lot of ideas floating around out there regarding who the three of Proverbs 30 are, but frankly none have Biblical support. These guys simply aren’t mentioned.
So how does Agur have knowledge of Gods Son? And, where did His grasp of the power of God come from? Simple… The Word of God He had access to, and the direct Revelation and Inspiration he received from God Himself. But why him? Why would God share such wisdom, and make sure it’s recorded and remembered in His Word for generations to learn from… through what seems to be just a regular guy? A “nobody”mentioned no where else in Scripture?
Maybe that’s the point? Gods in the business of using “nobody’s”. Truly He’s simply seeking willing bodies! (Romans 12:1, Ephesians 2:10). Our ears perk up when someone “well known” speaks. Some renowned “spiritual giant”, makes a statement and we all gasp. How many of those have we seen twist off in past years. Maybe we could focus more on simply listening for God to speak rather than “spiritual giants”?
Gods taught me some of the greatest lessons I’ve ever learned through “nobody” students. He’s the God Who speaks through bushes, and donkeys… and yes even children and “nobody’s”.
You may feel like a “nobody” but to God you are “somebody”, somebody He can use… if you’re only willing!
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!””
Isaiah 6:8 NIV
Love you all! Dig in!
