Jeremiah 2

Good Morning “Not Deceived.”  Today we are in Jeremiah 2.

Despite the Lords care of Israel, despite His freeing them from Egyptian oppression, Israel sought other Gods.  God, through Jeremiah, reminds us of His watch care.  Literally out breath and everything else - comes by His hand.  Yet… Israel turned away.  They fed their flesh.  They turned to other gods, gods of pagan nations - which are really no gods at all.

It’s interesting that Jeremiah makes the point that other nations stay true to their gods.  “Has a nation ever changed its gods? (Yet they are not gods at all.) But my people have exchanged their glorious God for worthless idols.” Jeremiah‬ ‭2‬:‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Why would any nation of people stay to true to their false gods while Israel, who had been shown time and time again just how much the One True God loved them… turned away?  Deception from the evil one?  Perhaps.  Inciting of the desires of their flesh crying out… surely (James 1:14).

It’s not like they denied God entirely.  No… they just want their cake and eat it too.  They ABSOLUTELY still know who has the power, evidenced by the fact that they cried out for Him each time He brought them to their knees.  “They have turned their backs to me and not their faces; yet when they are in trouble, they say, ‘Come and save us!’” Jeremiah‬ ‭2‬:‭27‬ ‭NIV‬‬

They have the gall to deny they have sin, in the face of the One who is all knowing.  “you say, ‘I am innocent; he is not angry with me.’ But I will pass judgment on you because you say, ‘I have not
sinned.’” Jeremiah‬ ‭2‬:‭35‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I don’t know about you, but this passage is convicting to me.  As believers I think we all push God aside at times… in favor of our own desires.  We know His Love, Power, and expectations of us - but choose our own way… until we’re in so deep He’s our only hope.  Do we recognize what we’re doing?  Do we see how messed up that is… or do we too deny our sin (1 John 1:8)?

Love you all!  Dig in!
