Psalm 142

Good Morning “Cave Dwellers” Today we are in Psalm 142.

The title of this Psalm tells us this was a prayer David wrote while in a cave.  This probably refers to one of the caves David hid in when King Saul was trying to kill him, perhaps the Cave of Adullam (1 Sam 22:1).

As David prays for Gods protection from his pursuers, take note… God is already moving.  God had a plan all along and it didn’t include David’s untimely death.  God provided even the cave!  David was human, so he felt despair.  That is evident here.  We, like David will likely go through trials where feel moments of abandonment.  Never forget… God is there!  He is way ahead of an evil pursuer we may have.  He is already dealing with our concern even before it’s a concern for us.

As you read through this Psalm you may want to compare it to some of the greatest challenges that faced Jesus.  He too felt abandoned and desperate.  He too put His total faith in God.  God had a plan that included them both.  His plan includes you too (Jeremiah 29:11).  Consider the progression of these passages and compare David’s heart with that of Jesus.

Mark 14:32-36

Psalm 143:3-4 and Mark 14:43-50

Psalm 142:5-6 and Luke 23:44-47

Psalm 142:7 and Luke 24:5-6

When we feel abandoned and desperate… remember He’s got a plan, He’s got you!  (Hebrews 13:5)  Be encouraged by David, Samuel, or the others… (Hebrews 11:32-40)

Love you all!  Dig in!
