Good Morning “Men and Women of Action.” Today we are in Isaiah 29.
Actions speak louder than words. Talks cheap. You can talk it… but do you walk it?
For many who have grown up in The Church, the “right answer”, rattles right off the tongue. Many know enough of Gods Word to enter into just about any debate regarding some of the most controversial theological issues - with confidence. To some degree, we have replaced true Biblical living, with deep theoretical discussion. The ability to enter into “deep” discussion becomes the fuel to bolster our self esteem and arrogance. Wait… did I say that out loud?
As Isaiah continues to describe the woes of Gods judgment due to Israel’s rebellion and sin related to covenant’s with their enemies - we find that Israel has the same problem. Gods response… blind them spiritually, during Isaiah’s time through the time of Tribulation - allowing them to wallow in their own empty “intelligence”, to bring them to a place of humility in which they will cry out for Him.
“The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught. Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.””
Isaiah 29:13-14 NIV
Here Isaiah continues weaving a parallel describing first their short term judgment due to their covenant with Egypt, then moving to their covenant with the Antichrist. He ultimately describes their final redemption.
Paul describes it this way…
“What then? What the people of Israel sought so earnestly they did not obtain. The elect among them did, but the others were hardened, as it is written: “God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that could not see and ears that could not hear, to this very day.” Romans 11:7-8 NIV
So Israel’s out… we’re in? Um… no they’re not out…
“Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious.” Romans 11:11 NIV Continue reading Romans 11 as Paul explains the rest of Israel’s story.
Let’s speak loudly, with words yes… but also actions. (1 Corinthians 3:18, 1 Peter 1:15-16, Ephesians 4:22-24, Galatians 2:20, Romans 12:1-2)
“Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted" Matthew 23:12
Love you all! Dig in!
