Good Morning “Burning Coal Heap-ers.” Today we are in Proverbs 25.
Finish the sentence… I’m rubber you’re glue, whatever you say bounces off of me and _________________.
If you hit me I’ll _________________.
When someone makes themselves our enemy, our typical response is to attack! When we’re talking about THE ENEMY, absolutely we must be prepared for spiritual battle (1 Peter 5:8-9, Ephesians 6:10-18).
But… when we’re referring to each other, however; remember it’s not flesh and blood we’re warring against… it’s deception from the liar of liars! (Ephesians 6:12)
Proverbs 15:1 reminds us that “A gentle word turns away wrath…”. When someone positions themselves against us, they are poised for and expecting a fight. They are disarmed when our response is not aggressive but instead gentle and kind. It messes with their categories. Furthermore it shines a light on their own deception and irrational behavior.
“If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.”
Proverbs 25:21-22 NIV
If you hit me I’ll not hit you back.
Instead, I’ll give you the other cheek (Matthew 5:39). Wait… what? Those words sound weird even typing them. It’s not my gut response either, but see how disarming that is?
Love you all! Dig in!
