Good Morning “Contenders for The Faith.” Today we read Jude.
Jude was the brother of James and Jesus. Jude appears to write this letter to a group of believers who like the rest - had some issues. False teachers had slipped in among them. They convinced some that they had received “dreams” that were “inspired.” These dreams led them to distort their teaching, pollute their bodies and live by their carnal instincts. You can imagine the outcome.
Jude writes to encourage the true believers to contend for the faith, to stand strong in their midst. He reminds them that The Lord will contend with those that embrace immorality and sin, just as He has in the past.
The Apostles warned us about them: “They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.” Jude 1:18-19 NIV
In John 17, the night of His arrest, Jesus prayed that we would be one, even as He and the Father are One. He prayed that we as believers would be UNITED. Satan is bent on destroying anything God desires to do. If we are paying attention we can identify those who promote division within that which God has instituted. Pay attention to those who try to divide… Especially those who claim to be followers but cause division within the body of believers. It’s not coming from God! If it’s not coming from God where’s it coming from?
Here’s the Truth - Satan has no power to divide us or do anything else except the power we give him. Through The Holy Spirit and our knowledge of the Truth, (The Word of God), he is powerless against us. His power is in the lie. The Truth of God, His light always dispels darkness.
“But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.” Jude 1:20-23 NIV
There you go! I need say nothing more. Love you all! Dig in and let Jude’s Words encourage you!
