Good Morning “Bible Livers.” Today we are in Jeremiah 6.
What happens to a people when they drift from The Word of God, and embrace ideologies that feed their flesh and give permission to their sin? Eventually they don’t even hear… they can’t see The Truth of Gods Word unfolding right in front of their face.
“To whom can I speak and give warning? Who will listen to me? Their ears are closed so they cannot hear. The word of the Lord is offensive to them; they find no pleasure in it.” Jeremiah 6:10 NIV
Even their prophets and priests get sucked in - even lead the way. For when we stray from Gods Word, it’s easy to become more about church growth, money in plates, butts in seats than The Truth. We can become more concerned with offending “new-comers” or “seekers” than we are concerned with offending God.
“From the least to the greatest, all are greedy for gain; prophets and priests alike, all practice deceit.”
Jeremiah 6:13 NIV
When the Truth is compromised, that which is being taught is deceiving. Don’t we love them enough to tell them The Truth? It’s the Truth (not lies) that sets us free from the bondage of sin (John 8:32). Jesus is The Way, THE TRUTH (not whatever sounds good), and The Life (John 14:6).
Jeremiah is clear… their problem is - they rejected His Word. “Hear you earth: I am bringing disaster on this people, the fruit of their schemes, because they have not listened to my words and have rejected my law.” Jeremiah 6:19 NIV
“For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4 NIV
Is that time now? It doesn’t have to be. At least not for us.
