Good Morning “Lovers of The Light.” Today we are in Isaiah 9.
Man, talk about a contrast. The depth Gods people can sink when intent on embracing their flesh… it’s really quite staggering. I am reminded of Paul’s words in Romans 1:18 - and the description of the descent of man found there. A description no doubt of what we have become as a nation, a world as well. Whether Paul’s or Isaiah’s words, one can get easily lost in the disparity, if not for The Hope - The Light that shines bright in the midst of even the darkest days. (Romans 1:14-17, Isaiah 9:1-7)
“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John 1:4-5 NIV
Even in the midst of Israel’s rebellion, Isaiah describes a remnant from within Judah. Through the Assyrians, God will gather them back to Himself, He will not forsake Judah completely but instead bring The Promise, The Messiah through them. Even in the midst of judgment and wrath of our God we find His Faithfulness through Mercy and Grace.
Isaiah prophecies here, very specifically, regarding the coming Savior and even His movement toward reaching the once despised Gentiles. (Matthew 4:14-16; Luke 4:14-30) The point of Matthew’s quotation was to indicate that people who had been living in darkness, now had the light of Jesus in their midst.
As John so eloquently puts it, “In Him (Jesus) was life, and that life was the light of ALL MANKIND.” All means all and that’s all all means. Jew and Gentile, slave or free, male or female, are all one is Jesus IF indeed by faith, we have received Him and His payment for our sins (Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5). Repentance is the evidence (Acts 3:19).
We all stumble in the dark from time to time… No matter where we are in our spiritual journey. Come out of the dark and into the light (1 Peter 2:9, John 12:46, Ephesians 5:8, 2 Corinthians 4:6).
Love you all! Dig in!
