Good Morning “Whole Word Seekers and Speakers”. Today we are in Hosea 4.
Israel’s idol worship, engagement in prostitution and drunkenness has caused them to lose / forget the knowledge of God! Their practices “take away their understanding”. What is God saying here? They pushed Him away, replaced Him with other things, and in the process also forgot His precepts. Their minds were so preoccupied with sin they had no room for God. Even their priests failed to teach the whole character of God. The people would not heave accepted it, if they had.
Look, worship styles change. There are alot of different ways to do church. More worship, less worship, instruments or none. There are a lot of ways to preach. In and of themselves different approaches are not condemned by Scripture.
What is condemned is failure to teach the whole council of God. Failure to teach The Character of God accurately. Forgetting who He IS, and remembering He has expectations for us as His children - as any father does.
Consider Revelation 2-3, Gods letters to The Churches. Each has a problem, and God calls them to repent as a result. Where does today’s church fit? How about your specific church? Have we really become a church that simply wants their backs patted, their ears tickled? Or are we also seeking to have our butts kicked where needed?
We read the Bible every day because we want to grow closer to God. We want to “know” Him and His ways. Do we receive and apply what we learn? We can only share His Word to the extent that we have received and believe it! We’ve got a job to do! (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8) It’s tough to share The Truth with others when we haven’t applied it ourselves.
