Good Morning “Careful Choosers”. Today we are in Ezekiel 27.
Yesterday we began to talk about the impending judgment of Tyre. Remember, she was judged because she mocked and took advantage of Judah during the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem. This oracle came to Ezekiel two years into Nebuchadnezzar’s three-year siege of Jerusalem around 587-586 BC. God is wasting no time responding to Tyre’s actions.
In this chapter Ezekiel is directed to prophecy further regarding Tyre - but this time through a “lament”, a song. Ezekiel was basically giving Tyre’s eulogy, like you might of an individual at their memorial - once they have passed.
Imagine the people of Tyre hearing this prophecy, as they live in their pride. WOW, are’t you glad you weren’t chosen to live in Tyre during that time? Remember God specifically put each person where and when they are with purpose (Acts 17:26-27). So what’s this got to do with us?
Actually this prophecy is eerily, and very similarly repeated in future end time prophecy regarding Babylon (Revelation 18). Remember when we talk “end times” Babylon is both a real city, and a metaphor for all evil systems. Near the end of the Tribulation both will be destroyed, ushering in the Millennial Kingdom when the saints, and those raptured prior to Tribulation will rule with Jesus (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, 1 Corinthians 15:51-52). Review Revelation 17-19 to grasp the gravity of this prophecy.
Simply put, choose Jesus, or choose the world. We don’t get to choose both. “You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.” James 4:4 NIV
The future for each side isn’t a mystery! God loves us enough to make it clear.
Love you all! Dig in!
