Good Morning “Those Willing to Put In The Work.” Today we are in 2 Samuel 6.
I once had a young man, who had dated a couple girls, tell me that he could not wait to meet the one God had for him. Curious, I asked him why. Because when I meet the one God has for me we’ll just click. The relationship won’t be so hard. It’ll just be easy. Anyone who is married or had a serious relationship is laughing right now.
In today’s chapter we learn an important lesson. “Worshiping”and “honoring” God in our own way, doesn’t cut it!
David is King. The Arc of God must be brought up. So, they go and get it. To transport it, they set the Arc on a nice new cart. Pause… anyone cringing right now? Do we see a problem with this?
“When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled. The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down, and he died there beside the ark of God.” 2 Samuel 6:6-7
What? What gives? Uzzah was just trying to help! What gives is they knew better, and Uzzah paid the price. The Kohathites were to transport the Holy things on their shoulders, with poles. The Arc was built with rings on this side for this purpose. It was to be covered. The instructions were always clear… don’t look, don’t touch - lest you die (Numbers 4:4-6, 15, 17-20; and 7:9).
No shortcuts! God has made His Word clear to us. As we purpose to be obedient, to build our relationship with Him… there are no shortcuts. Relationships take work. He is Grace. He is Love. He is Holy. He is Justice. His commands are clear and as such He should be feared. He and His Law is to be respected, not mocked or obeyed half heartedly. We don’t get to make Him into whatever we like, and worship Him any way we choose. That’s not worship at all. We have to know His Word - to be obedient to it.
Love you all! Dig in!
