Good Morning “Recipients of Grace, but deserving of death.”  Today we are in 2 Samuel 16.

“The wages (payment) required for sin is death.” Romans 6:23  David continues to live through all of the discipline / punishment The Lord promised, yet even in the midst, as hard as it seems, he is the recipient of Gods Grace.

David’s sin with Bathsheba deserved punishment, his subsequent murder of her husband Uriah deserved death and David knew it (Exodus 21:12).   Even in the midst of his suffering, David is aware of Gods power, and Grace.  He’s completely aware his circumstances are God ordained and takes his medicine, but acknowledges God could stop it at any time if He chose.

“It may be that the Lord will look upon my misery and restore to me his covenant blessing instead of his curse today.” 2 Samuel‬ ‭16‬:‭12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This hard Truth is one the progressive Church would rather forget.  God is Holy and Perfect.  His Holiness demands He deal with sin.  He’s the perfect Father and as such must discipline His children, those He loves, perfectly.  “My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Discipline hurts!  Our natural response is to fight against it, rebel, even resent the one who brings it.

Consider our foolishness.  If discipline is what changes our course from sin and its horrible consequences, to life and potential blessing  - why do we despise it?  Jesus paid the price of death for our sin (Romans 5:8), yet our sinful course must still be redirected.

David understood the principal.

Love you all!  Dig in!
