Paul helps us understand Gods expectations for us if we get married. Perhaps the toughest challenge we face - is keeping God first. The one who is married is divided. We are concerned about our wives / husbands, and families. We should be, we are to care well for each other. On the other hand, the one that remains single can devote themselves fully to the work of the Lord.
Think about how far we’ve come since Paul’s words to the Corinthian church. Have you ever known anyone who chose to remain single so they could devote themselves fully to the work of The Lord? Paul’s not talking about priests here. He’s talking regular people.
One application for us here, is God first! No matter what. Nothing is more important than our relationship and service to the Lord.
