Jeremiah 42

Good Morning “Heart of God Seekers.”  Today we are in Jeremiah 42.

Judah has been sacked!  While most were taken into exile, a remnant was left behind to tend to the land.  After the assassination of Gedaliah, The Governor appointed by king Nebuchadnezzar, the remnant of Judah was afraid.  They began to flee to Egypt (Jeremiah 41:16-18).  But wait… what’s this, it appears they want to hear what The Lord has to say.

“Then all the army officers, including Johanan son of Kareah and Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least to the greatest approached Jeremiah the prophet and said to him, “Please hear our petition and pray to the Lord your God for this entire remnant. For as you now see, though we were once many, now only a few are left. Pray that the Lord your God will tell us where we should go and what we should do.””
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭42‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jeremiah agrees to go to The Lord on their behalf.

“Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the Lord be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act in accordance with everything the Lord your God sends you to tell us.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭42‬:‭5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Could it be?  Did the leaders of Judahs army, and the remnant great and small have a change of heart.  At last, are they willing to put aside their own desires, their own flesh and return to The Lord?

10 days later The Word of The Lord comes to Jeremiah and he delivers it to the remnant.  Summary: Stay in this land, do not be afraid, do not flee - and I will bless you.

Surely they listened right?  You’ll have to read on if you haven’t already but here’s the question that comes to mind when I study this chapter…

When we seek The Word of God, through prayer, through Scripture study, through fellow believers… are we REALLY seeking Gods heart?  Are we chasing discernment?  Or… are we simply looking to put a God stamp on the lives and decisions we’ve already chosen in our flesh?  It’s a critical question, because when He speaks, obedience is the expectation.  Obedience comes with blessing… disobedience… well like I said - read on.

Love you all!  Dig in!
