Good Morning “Faithful”. Today we are in Jeremiah 39.
Wow! Just wow! That’s my reaction each time I read of Nebuchadnezzar’s attack on Jerusalem. Imagine the horror. Check the dates… the battle waged for around a year and half.
God keeps His promises both for redemption and for judgment. Let’s not forget the dozens upon dozens of times God pled with Judah to repent and return. God promised She WOULD return to Him and She WOULD be restored… (Jeremiah 30) the easy way, or the hard way. THIS is the hard way. As you read, as horrific as it sounds… imagine the horror of an eternity separated from The Lord (Matthew 13:49-50, 25:41).
If we only concentrate on Gods wrath for the unfaithful we are only getting 1/2 the story. What about His Grace as He attempts to turn them back to Him? What about His heart for us for eternity? What about His mercy and grace for the faithful?
God had also made promises to Jeremiah - chief among them at the time of his call. “They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 1:19 NIV While he was caged within the royal Courtyard, God reminded him (Jeremiah 39:15-18). Through the whole battle God moved through Nebuchadnezzar - in more ways than one. Jeremiah was always in Gods hands (Jeremiah 39:11-14).
What about us? We too, as sinners, are condemned to suffer… that’s our default (Romans 3:23, 6:23a). The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus (Roman’s 6:23b). In the midst of our sin, like Judah, He offers an alternative (Romans 5:8). There is nothing we can do to earn it (Ephesians 2:8-9), we must simply humble ourselves, believe and receive (John 3:16). Evidence of that TRUE belief, is the action that follows (Romans 10:9, John 14:15, Acts 3:19-20). Then… guess what… (Romans 8:1).
There’s still time. For now. This ALL will one day come to an end. Love you all! Dig in!
