Good Morning “Cloud Watchers”. Today we are in Jeremiah 36.
“He said to the crowd: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does…. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?” Luke 12:54,56
Man when I read today’s chapter this was the passage I thought of. Jesus has some strong words for us concerning the events of our day. Look around… the things we see happening in our world have been prophesied. Like Israel / Judah, we must repent and dive in fully with God - while there is still time.
Why do I relate Jehoiakim burning The Word of The Lord, to Jesus’ Words in Luke? Because… Jehoiakim should have known better too! He was raised under his father, Godly King Josiah, one of the most righteous Kings to reign in Judah. “Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the Lord as he did—with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses.” 2 Kings 23:25 NIV
He should have known Gods standard and expected judgement when rejecting it.
Do you remember how King Josiah died? In fact Jeremiah prophesied regarding The Battle of Carchemish which led to Josiah’s death. That battle took place in the very same year, the fourth year of Jehoiakims reign (Jeremiah 46:2, 36:1).
So… Jehoiakim was raised by a Godly father and Jeremiah was already proven to be a True Prophet of God - the things Jeremiah prophesied came true. His father’s death should have been fresh in his mind. So why would Jehoiakim reject The Word of The Lord and rather than repent, burn it?
Why do people today? Why do we? Deceived? Blinded by the desires of our own flesh? More distance between us and God than we care to admit? Maybe.
Love you all! Dig in!
