Good Morning “Anticipators of The Day of The Lord.” Today we are in Isaiah 13.
Isaiah can be a scary book. Particularly for the unbelieving, hard hearted, rebellious, unrepentant sinner. But for the True Believer in Jesus… it shouldn’t be.
Isaiah 13 describes serious judgment, punishment and destruction. It begins a section that goes on to chapter 23, describing Gods judgment upon nations that stood against Israel. Side note… if you ever doubt that the US should stand with Israel… keep reading.
Before we dig in though… remember the promise of John 14 to the True Believer. “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:3 NIV
Check it out:
“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.”
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 NIV
Jesus comes back for us!
This passage describes what we’ve come to call The Rapture of The Church. God is about to rain Holy Terror down on the Earth. He will judge the nations and the unrepentant sinners, while also giving a last chance to Israel and the unrepentant sinner. We refer to this time as the “Tribulation” or “The Day of The Lord”. There is no need for The True Believer (True belief is demonstrated with action) to be here then. The Tribulation is a time meant to bring Israel to her knees so that she will repent and turn back to God. Gentile unbelievers still here are also offered the same Grace, but It’s way better to be gone from here at this time. As you dig into Isaiah 13 keep those things in mind…
When we see Babylon in Scripture it can mean the physical place, the first man made kingdom where Nimrod built the Tower of Babel. Many believe thats same area as the original Garden of Eden is said to have been - The place of the first rebellion and sin. Babylon will be the place from which the AntiChrist rules in the end.
It Scripture Babylon also personifies false religion of any kind, and is representative of the sin and rebellion of man. Two things compete for our allegiance and faith. Our Triune God and His Gospel through Jesus… and, everything else. That everything else could be referred to as Babylon (Revelation 17:3-6). God is going to destroy ALL of that in future events.
Note: Don’t be thrown off by the reference to Medes here (vs 17). This is not a description of the Medes attack on Babylon in 540BC, but rather a simple reference to those that descend from that same people group. The rest of the text makes it clear… this a a future event “End Times” event. See Revelation 17:14-18:3 for further description.
Do you know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior? If so…you need not fear “The Day of The Lord”. If not, no time like the present to make your Salvation in Jesus sure. (Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, 10:9, 8:1 tells you why and how.) Reach out if you need guidance.
Love you all! Dig in!
