Proverbs 13

Good Morning “Walkers - With The Wise.”  Today we are in Proverbs 13.

We just returned from our Sr High Mission Trip to Costa Rica.  Everyone stepped it up.  It’s incredible how students all heading in the same direction, closer to Jesus, seem to fuel the fire in each other.  Peer pressure works both ways - when it’s good and when it’s bad.

We’ve defined Biblical Wisdom as living out The Word of God, applying what you know.  Solomon makes it really simple - want to become wise?  Hang with those who are.

“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” Proverbs‬ ‭13‬:‭20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The fool will bring us down… no matter what we’ve convinced ourselves of.

“The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” Psalms‬ ‭14‬:‭1‬a NIV

Not necessarily an atheist, but one who does not acknowledge God by  living according to His Word.

“Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.””
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15‬:‭33‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Gods charge for parents is clear.
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭22‬:‭6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

We as parents teach / show them how to live.  Either way we have raised them up… good or bad, when they are old they will not depart.  We cannot be passive and think somehow they’ll turn out ok?  Solomon reminds us, sometimes they will get off track… when they do, it’s the parent’s job to administer the discipline of The Lord.

“Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.” Proverbs‬ ‭13‬:‭24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Fail to discipline, and the child is left to destructive ways… that’s absolutely not love.  Our responsibility is to parent by Gods Word - then, give Him the credit.

Love you all!  Dig in!
