Isaiah 49

Good Morning “Not On Our Own”.  Today we are in Isaiah 49.

This chapter is written in the first person narrative.  But who’s speaking… Did you figure out?

Again, pay attention to what He is saying of Himself.  The clues are many.  “mouth like a sharpened sword”, “Servant”, “to bring Jacob (Israel) back to Him”, also “a light for the Gentiles”.

In verse 7 the Who is made absolutely clear…
“”This is what the Lord says— the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel— to him who was despised and abhorred by the nation, to the servant of rulers: “Kings will see you and stand up, princes will see and bow down, because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.””
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭49‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Yup!  Jesus.  We are entering into the section of Isaiah where over the next 5 chapters we will study the calling of Jesus, His suffering, and ultimately His death.

God has a plan, and it has always included Jesus.  Jesus will lead the Jews to repentance and restoration.  We the “Gentiles” are a part of that process (Romans 11 esp. vs 11 & 25). God has hardened the Jews for a time, so that the full number of Gentiles may come to salvation.  This will make Israel jealous and they too will turn to Jesus.  Gods plans ALWAYS work.  Check out Acts 13:44-49.

Once we have a relationship with Jesus, through His Blood shed on The Cross, we too have a job to do (Ephesians 2:8-10, Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:18-20, Roman’s 8:29).

Ministry can be discouraging at times.   “Why don’t they get it?” We pick up a note of discouragement even through the Words of Jesus.  “But I said, “I have labored in vain; I have spent my strength for nothing at all. Yet what is due me is in the Lord’s hand, and my reward is with my God.”” Isaiah‬ ‭49‬:‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jesus understood His reward was with God… eternal treasures in Heaven - those that do “believe”.  The LORD God is Jesus’ strength (vs 5).  Even Jesus relied on the strength of The LORD. He didn’t labor on His own… neither do we (Acts 1:8, Matt 28:20b).  Have you ever considered the day you arrive into Heaven?  Who will be there as a result of God working through you?  Have you made yourself available to Him (Romans 12:1)?

Love you all!  Dig in!
