Good Morning “Perfect For His Use.” Today we are in Isaiah 53.
Chapter 53 is all prophecy about Jesus. Prophecy that has all been fulfilled or is about to as the end grows near. Every verse except verse 2 is repeated in reference to Jesus in the New Testament. In fact, Jesus referring to Himself, quotes Isaiah 53:12 in Luke 22:37.
On other occasions, when Jesus declared that He “must suffer many things” and that He had not “come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many” (Mark 8:31; 10:45), He was also alluding to Isaiah 53.
It’s interesting that with passages such as these, they were expecting Jesus to come as a Conquering King. Oh He will, when He comes again to judge; but His first time on earth was spent as a servant (Matthew 20:28).
One of the Truths in this chapter that has always caught my attention as a youth pastor is the 2nd part of verse 2:
“…He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.” Isaiah 53:2 NIV
Jesus didn’t draw crowds because of His outward beauty. He wasn’t necessarily charismatic. “There was nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him.” Translation… from the outside looking in He was ordinary. People followed and listened to Him because He served them and loved them well. That serving and loving resulted in listening ears to hear His voice as He spoke Truth. They listened, and learned how to live and love Biblically. Consider the loving manner in which Jesus humbles Himself with the woman at the well… consider the result of that interaction (John 4:1-26, 39-42).
If you’ve ever doubted Gods ability to use you because you are ordinary, lack charisma, or believed some other lie of the evil one... guess what? Whatever you may think eliminates you… makes you the perfect candidate for Gods use. Simply follow Jesus example (Philippians 2:5-8, 12-15).
Love you all! Dig in!
