Good Morning “Faithful”. Today we are in Proverbs 5.
Solomon addresses a well known commandment in this Proverb -
“You shall not commit adultery.”
Exodus 20:14 NIV
He describes the allure of the adulteress, the steps of compromise associated with falling into the sin, and the ultimate consequence. It’s not pretty!
While we might become disciplined enough to control our actions… God is concerned with our hearts. Jesus makes that clear while preaching The Sermon on The Mount.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matthew 5:27-28 NIV
So serious is Jesus’ charge that He continues “If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.”
Matthew 5:29-30 NIV
Truly Scripture, including this Proverb, and Jesus’ Words here - all have application for us as it relates to all sin! We are to remove / avoid the things in our life that cause us to sin. If we struggle in particular situations… it’s simple, we must be smart - we don’t put ourselves in those situations! Trouble controlling my thoughts… maybe I don’t hang out at the pool. Alcohol a problem… don’t eat at the bar and grill. We must be smart, because we are not strong!
(1 Corinthians 15:33, 2 Corinthians 10:5, Philippians 4:8).
What if we were to renew our minds with The Word of God, taught by The Spirit of God - thus changing the way we think in the first place (Romans 12:1-2). In the process the heart is changed. If we change the way we think… we change the way we live.
Love you all! Dig in!
