Good Morning “Upright Walkers.” Today we are in Isaiah 57.
“The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death.” Isaiah 57:2 NIV
Want to take a guess as to what God through Isaiah is talking about here? Hint… remember Isaiah is prophecy, some near term but some long term “end times” prophecy.
Need more? Read on, or read again… what happens to those NOT deemed “righteous”? Remember no one is righteous apart from the blood of Jesus… so we’re talking about true believers in the first 2 verses.
As you consider, it might be helpful to know that the phrase “taken away” in verse 1 can actually mean “gathered” in the original Hebrew. Now check out 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 especially 17-18.
Did you get it? Literally Isaiah is prophesying regarding the Rapture of the Church, all those who are “true believers” will be caught up in the clouds with Jesus, removed. Then the Tribulation - meant to give another chance to Israel and anyone else who is still living but are not followers of Jesus. At this point, the mocking is all over. It’s not funny anymore. The lies are exposed. The false idols, religions, are exposed as empty.
Check out the chapter again with that as background context.
